Shed Removal in Frederick, MD
The shed with the rotted floor, the one leaning toward the fence, or the one in the way of a new garden. I empty it, take it apart, load every piece on my own truck and haul it away in the same job. You get a written price before I start, and the minimum job is $100.
What shed removal involves
A shed comes down in roughly the reverse order it went up:
- Whatever is stored inside comes out first, and anything you don't want back goes on the truck
- Roofing and the roof frame come off
- Doors, windows, siding and wall framing come down
- The floor and its frame come up, down to the slab or bare ground
- Shelving, workbenches and the ramp go with it
Every piece leaves on my truck, and disposal is part of the quoted price. I rake up the nails and screws before I leave. This is part of my light demolition work: hand and power tools, no excavator, nothing structural on the house.
Before I start
If electric runs to the shed, for a light or an outlet, it has to be disconnected first, by you or the utility. I will point out anything I see when I quote. Liquid paint, solvents, fuel and chemicals stay behind, and sheds collect a lot of those. Mention a mower or a gas can in your photos and I will explain what needs to happen before pickup. The county's drop-off options for those are in my Frederick County landfill guide.
Permits
Whether a teardown needs county paperwork depends on where the property is and what the county says about the structure. I wrote up what Frederick County publishes, with links to the source pages, in Shed and Demolition Permits in Frederick County. Before I quote a teardown, I discuss permit requirements with you so any required approvals are in place before work starts.
What affects the quote
There is no set price per shed, because two sheds the same size can be very different jobs. What I look at:
- Size and build. A small metal kit shed comes apart faster than a framed wood shed with shingles.
- What's inside. A shed full of old tools, lumber and junk adds to the load, and emptying it adds time.
- The floor. Tell me whether there is a wood floor, a concrete slab or bare ground, and what you want left when I am done.
- Access. How close I can park the truck to the shed affects how long the carrying takes.
- Other work the same day. A shed and a garage in one visit costs less than two separate trips.
Send a few photos from different sides, plus one of the inside, and I send back one written price for the whole job, usually the same day. How pricing works covers the rest.
Towns I serve
I work in Frederick County only, from Frederick and Middletown to Urbana, New Market, Mount Airy, Jefferson, Myersville, Emmitsburg and every other town in the county. There is no trip charge for a quote anywhere in the county.
Questions
Do I need a permit to tear down a shed?
It depends on the property. The county demolition sheet does not list a size cutoff for small structures, and towns like the City of Frederick have their own process, so ask before the work starts. My shed and demolition permits page has the county links, and I go over it with you before I quote.
Can you empty the shed and haul the contents too?
Yes. Old tools, lumber, bikes and general junk can go on the truck in the same job. Liquid paint, solvents, fuel and chemicals stay behind, because I don't haul hazardous material.
How much does shed removal cost?
It depends on the size, how it is built, what is inside and how far the carry is, so I quote each shed from photos. The quote is free and in writing, and the minimum job is $100. You pay when the job is done: cash, check, card or app.
Does the electric need to be shut off first?
Yes. If a circuit feeds a light or an outlet in the shed, it has to be disconnected before I start, by you or the utility. I will point it out when I quote if I see it.
