Frederick County Landfill Guide

If you are hauling it yourself, this is where it goes. Every fact on this page links to the Frederick County page it came from, so you can check it before you drive out.

Before you go: rules, hours and fees change. Confirm with the county or city using the linked pages before you load the truck.

Where and when

The landfill and recycling center is at 9031 Reichs Ford Road, Frederick, MD 21704. The drop-off site is open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Source: Location, Site Hours & Driving Directions (checked October 2026).

The county lists closure dates for 2026 to 2027, including November 11, November 26, December 25 and January 1. Source: Landfill Information (checked October 2026).

Bring ID, and only county waste

The facility only accepts waste generated inside Frederick County, even if the person hauling it lives in the county. Bring your driver's license. If it does not show a Frederick County address, also bring paperwork showing the Frederick County address where the waste came from, such as a work contract, utility bill, lease or tax bill. Cover your load

Every load has to be covered or secured so nothing can blow, spill or fall out, and the county can fine uncovered loads. Source: Facility Use (checked October 2026). The yard waste page adds that Maryland law requires all loads to be covered and that entry can be denied if yours isn't. Source: Yard Waste and Compost Program (checked October 2026).

How the fees work

Trash and construction debris are charged by weight, with a minimum charge on every transaction. Household trash and construction and demolition debris have different rates, and the county posts a fee table with the current numbers. Mattresses are charged at the trash rate up to a set number of pieces, with a per-piece fee after that. Source: Landfill Information (checked October 2026).

The county accepts cash, check, money order, Apple Pay and major credit cards. The transfer station accepts solid waste only. Some liquids have separate recycling options, listed below. Source: Facility Use (checked October 2026).

Free recycling drop-off

The recycling drop-off center uses the Recycling Road entrance, is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and takes these at no charge: regular recycling; appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, air conditioners and water heaters; scrap metal like bicycles, fencing and lawn mowers; rigid plastics like buckets, storage tubs, plastic furniture and pallets; motor oil, filters and antifreeze; lead-acid batteries; and dry textiles. Yard waste

Yard waste can be dropped off Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the same address. Branches must be smaller than 6 inches across and no longer than 8 feet. Food scraps are not accepted. A minimum charge applies at the main yard waste site. Residents can instead drop off up to five 30-gallon yard waste bags per day at no charge at the recycling entrance. Electronics

Electronics go to the Electronics Loop Drop-Off: cross the scales and turn right. These drop-offs have a minimum charge, with weight-based charges after that minimum is reached. Residents, businesses and haulers are each limited to recycling ten TVs or computer monitors per calendar year. The county also points out that many big-box and electronics stores run their own recycling programs. Source: Electronics Recycling (checked October 2026).

Paint, chemicals and other hazardous waste

Household hazardous waste is collected at county events, not every day. Events are listed on the county page; the fall 2026 event is scheduled for October 10, 8 a.m. to noon, at 21 Stadium Drive (the upper lot at Keys Stadium). Accepted items include fuels, pesticides, pool chemicals, aerosol paint, brake fluid and fluorescent bulbs. Source: Household Hazardous Wastes (checked October 2026).

Latex and oil-based paint are accepted at those events, and dried-out paint is accepted at the Reichs Ford Road transfer station. Source: Paint Disposal (checked October 2026).

Rather not make the trip?

Hauling it yourself makes sense for a pickup-bed load. For a garage, a basement or a torn-down shed, I load it, haul it, and the disposal fees are built into a written price. See junk removal, what I take and how pricing works.
