Junk removal guide

How Junk Removal Pricing Works

Every job gets a free quote, in writing, before anything is loaded. The only fixed number is a $100 minimum. Everything else depends on the job, and this page explains what moves the price.

The two fixed things

  • The quote is free. Send photos and the address and you usually hear back the same day, depending on the size of the job. There is no trip charge for a quote anywhere in Frederick County.
  • There is a $100 minimum for any job, including a single item.

You get one price for the whole job, in writing. The price you agree to is the price you pay. You pay when the job is done, by cash, check, card or app.

What drives the price

Volume. The biggest factor is how much there is. A recliner takes a corner of the truck; a full basement takes the whole thing, sometimes more than one trip.

Access. A ground-floor garage with the truck backed up to the door is quick. Second-floor bedrooms, basement stairs, long carries from the back of a property, tight hallways and townhouse parking all add time.

Item types. Heavy and awkward items take more effort: upright pianos, hot tubs, gun safes, full-size appliances. Dense material like drywall, tile and roofing weighs far more than the same space full of furniture.

Disposal fees. The landfill charges by weight, with separate rates for household trash and construction debris, and some items carry their own fees. Those fees are built into my quote, so you don't see a separate dump charge later. You can see how the county charges in my landfill guide.

Disassembly. Some things have to come apart before they come out: a shed, a deck, a play set, a bed that was built in the room, a sectional that won't clear the door. Teardown time is part of the price, and so is the cleanup after.

How to get an accurate quote

  • Take photos from a few angles, including the path out: stairs, doorways, the driveway.
  • Mention anything heavy, anything that has to come apart, and anything that might have fuel, paint or chemicals in it.
  • Say whether everything goes or some of it stays.
  • For big jobs, I can come look in person before I quote.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Sell or give away anything usable before the job, so it never takes truck space.
  • Have everything that goes in one spot, like the garage or the driveway, if you are able to move it safely.
  • Combine jobs. A garage and a shed in one visit costs less than two separate trips.
  • Some items can go to the county recycling drop-off at no charge, like many appliances and scrap metal. The bulk trash guide covers what is free and where.
