Appliance Removal and Disposal in Frederick, MD

An old appliance is the one piece of junk that beats most people on its own. It's too heavy for two neighbours and a pickup, it's usually in a basement or a back laundry room, regular trash service won't take it, and the new one is getting delivered Thursday whether the old one has moved or not.

Usually it's one of a few situations. The fridge in the garage that was the backup fridge until it stopped being cold. A washer that flooded the floor once and has been unplugged ever since. A chest freezer in the basement that came with the house. A tenant who moved out and left a stove, a microwave and a dehumidifier behind. Or a kitchen being replaced, where the old set has to be out of the way before the cabinets go in.

We haul appliances out and get them disposed of. One visit, and we do the carrying.

What we take

Refrigerators and freezers, washers and dryers, dishwashers, stoves and wall ovens, range hoods, microwaves, water heaters, window AC units, dehumidifiers, trash compactors, and the small stuff that collects around them. TVs and electronics are no extra charge.

Appliances are mostly steel, so they get separated out for metal rather than going straight into a landfill load. Where your stuff goes has more on that.

The disconnect, and where we stop

Most of this is straightforward and we handle it:

  • A washer and dryer get unhooked — water off, hoses off, vent off.
  • An electric range, a dryer or a window unit unplugs.
  • A fridge gets emptied, the water line shut off and disconnected if it has one, and the doors come off if that's what it takes to get through a stairwell.
  • A water heater gets drained before it moves, which takes a hose and a while. Plan for that.

Two places we stop, and we'd rather say so here than on the day:

Gas. A gas range, gas dryer or gas water heater needs the line shut off and capped before the appliance leaves. If that hasn't been done, say so when you ask for the quote.

Hard-wired and built-in HVAC. If something is wired in rather than plugged in, you want an electrician on it first — we don't do panel or hard-wire work. Same with central heating and air: we're not an HVAC contractor, so a condenser or a furnace that's still connected needs that trade to disconnect it. Once the old equipment is out and sitting there, we'll haul it.

What affects the quote

Three things, in roughly this order.

How many, and how big. One dishwasher is not the same job as a full kitchen set plus a chest freezer.

Where it is. A garage with the door open is the easy version. A basement with a turn in the stairs, a second-floor laundry room, or a long carry to where the truck can actually park is more handling, and that's most of the time on a small job.

What's in it. Refrigerators, freezers, AC units and dehumidifiers carry an added fee, shown on the quote and not sprung at the end — the disposal site has to recover the refrigerant and charges for it. That applies to anything that cools, including the garage fridge that hasn't worked in five years.

Quotes are free, depend on the size of the job, and usually come back the same day. They're good for 30 days. There's a $100 minimum on any job, so if you have one appliance going it's worth looking around for anything else you want gone while the truck is there. Payment by cash, check, card or any payment app.

How long it takes

A single appliance from a garage or a ground-floor kitchen is under an hour. A full kitchen set is usually a couple of hours including the disconnects. A basement chest freezer or water heater is the slow one, not because of the weight but because of the stairs and the draining.

If a delivery is coming, tell us the date. Getting the old unit out ahead of the new one arriving is a normal ask and it's easier than working around it once it's in the way.
