Junk Removal and Hauling in Thurmont, MD
Thurmont is at the top of the county, at the foot of Catoctin Mountain. I haul junk and brush, clear out houses, take down sheds and fences, and do repairs here, and I save you the long trip to the county landfill.
How close I am
Thurmont is about 20 miles from 5738 Jefferson Pike, roughly 30 to 35 minutes up Route 15. It's the farthest of the towns I cover regularly, so I try to group Thurmont jobs on the same day. There's still no trip charge for a quote.
An old town with a working Main Street
The town started as Mechanicstown and took the name Thurmont in 1894. It is a designated Maryland Main Street community, and many of the older homes sit in and around the downtown blocks, with newer neighborhoods on the edges of town and wooded lots toward the mountain. Older homes mean full attics and basements; wooded lots mean brush, old sheds and fences.
How Thurmont handles bulk trash and yard waste
- The town scheduled four bulk pickups in 2026: January 10, April 11, July 11 and October 17.
- You must call the Town office (301-271-7313, weekdays 8 AM to 4 PM) to get on the pickup list, and some items need a sticker.
- Grass clippings are collected curbside on Mondays, April through November, in paper yard waste bags of 40 pounds or less. Tree limbs don't go in the bags.
- Residents with a yearly permit can drop yard waste at the town site next to the Thurmont Regional Library on Moser Road.

Nearest drop-off
For anything the town won't take, the county's site at 9031 Reichs Ford Road is open to residents Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 4:30 PM. Accepted scrap metal and empty appliances go in free at the recycling entrance. Residents can also drop off up to five 30-gallon yard waste bags per day free; loads that carry a fee go through the main entrance. From Thurmont that's about 23 miles, well over an hour round trip, so one truckload with me saves you the drive.
