Furniture Removal in Frederick, MD
Furniture is the thing that sits the longest. It is too big for the car, too heavy to get down the stairs alone, and usually too good to feel right about dragging to the curb — so it moves to the basement, or the garage, or the spare room, and stays there for a year while somebody means to deal with it.
We take it out. James (Jay) King runs Jay's Property Management out of Jefferson Pike in Frederick, and the owner is on every job.
In September we picked up a couple of chairs, a loveseat and an ottoman from a house in Frederick — in and out in well under an hour, loaded and gone. That is what most furniture jobs look like. The hard part is not the hauling. It is getting someone to show up for four pieces.
What we take
Sofas, loveseats and sectionals. Chairs and recliners. Ottomans and footstools. Dressers, nightstands and wardrobes. Bed frames, box springs and headboards. Mattresses. Dining tables and chairs. Desks, filing cabinets and office chairs. Bookcases, entertainment centres and that one armoire that got in through a door nobody can find now. Patio furniture, outdoor tables, grills and umbrellas.
Appliances and electronics too, if they are going in the same trip. TVs and electronics carry no extra charge.
We do the lifting and the carrying. Out of a basement, down from a second floor, through a narrow stairwell — you do not need to move anything to the curb first, and you do not need to prepare the room. If the ground is soft we carry or use a dolly rather than drive across the yard.
What we do not take is on the what we take and what we don't page, and it is a short list.
What moves the quote
Price is volume — how much space the load takes up in the truck — not weight. A solid oak dresser and a particle-board one the same size cost about the same to haul.
So the quote comes down to how many pieces, how big they are, and how far they have to travel to get to the truck. Four pieces on the ground floor is the cheap end. Eight pieces out of a finished basement with a turn in the stairs is a different number, and you should hear that number before we start, not after.
A few specifics:
- There is a $100 minimum on any job. A single chair is still a trip.
- Mattresses are $28 each, on top of the load.
- Refrigerators, freezers, AC units and dehumidifiers carry an added fee shown on the quote, because of the refrigerant.
- Quotes are free, depend on the size of the job, and usually come back the same day. They are good for 30 days.
- If you add pieces on the day, the price is adjusted to match — in front of you.
The fastest way to a real number is a few photos by text. Most of what it takes to price a furniture load is visible in a picture: what the pieces are, roughly how big, and what is between them and the door.
How long it takes
A handful of pieces is usually under an hour on site, and often we can come within a few days — sometimes the next morning when the schedule allows it. A full house, or a basement that has been filling up since the last people lived there, is a half-day or a day.
You do not have to be home. A lockbox, a code lock, an unlocked garage or pieces left on a porch all work, and you can pay afterward. Plenty of people never meet us at all.
Weekend jobs are available. Phones are answered Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.
Payment is cash, check, card or any payment app, when the work is done.
Where it goes
Nothing gets dumped in a hollow somewhere. Loads go to the proper facility for what is in them, and what can be separated out gets separated out — there is more on that on where your stuff goes.
Towns served
Frederick, Brunswick, Middletown, Walkersville and Thurmont, plus Jefferson, Urbana, New Market and Mount Airy. We work about 25 miles out from Jefferson Pike, and further for the right job — so if your town is not on that list, ask.
