Move-Out Cleanouts in Middletown, MD

A move-out cleanout is what's left after the moving truck pulls away. The things that didn't make the cut, the things nobody wanted to carry, and the things that were never going to fit in the new place: the garage shelving, the chest freezer that stopped working two winters ago, the paint cans on the basement step, four bags of clothes by the door, a mattress in the back bedroom.

Middletown is one of our closest towns — about 7 miles from 5738 Jefferson Pike, roughly 15 minutes over the valley roads. That matters on a cleanout, because these jobs usually have a date attached to them.

Why the town's schedule doesn't cover a move-out

Middletown handles routine household trash well. A move-out isn't routine.

  • Trash is picked up every Wednesday inside town limits by the town's contractor. That's for bags, not for a sofa or a dryer.
  • Yard waste goes out Tuesdays from April 7 through December 29, 2026, in the town's brown paper bags. Check bag availability with the Municipal Center at 31 West Main Street before driving over for them.
  • The town holds a couple of bulk pickup days a year — two in 2026 — with two items per household, out by 6 AM. Two items. A move-out is twenty, and the next date may be months after your settlement.

Information checked October 2026; schedules change, and the Middletown page carries the current dates.

For anything the town won't take, the county's site at 9031 Reichs Ford Road is open to residents Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 4:30 PM — about 13 miles from Middletown, roughly 20 minutes each way. That's a workable afternoon if you have a truck and one load. It stops being workable at four loads, during the week you are also moving house.

What the work involves

We walk the house with you first, or on a video call if you've already left town, and sort it into what goes, what stays and what you want kept aside. Then it gets carried out and loaded — the garage, the attic, the crawlspace, the shed, whatever is in them.

The older houses along Main Street and the ones in the valley subdivisions make for different days. A Main Street house often means a narrow stair to a full attic and everything coming down by hand. A subdivision house is usually a two-car garage plus a basement, more volume but easier carrying.

Anything still worth using goes to donation where somewhere will take it. Mattresses, appliances and furniture come with us because none of them go in regular trash. Hazardous material — paint, solvents, propane tanks, chemicals — isn't part of a standard haul and needs its own disposal route, so point it out before the job gets scheduled rather than after.

A cleanout is the stuff, not the scrubbing. If the unit also needs paint, repairs and a final clean before new tenants, that's a rental turnover and we'd rather quote it that way than have you expect it inside a haul.

Landlords, agents and estates

A good share of these jobs come from people who don't live in the house. A landlord with a unit left full, an agent who needs a property clear before photos, a family clearing a parent's home after a sale. You don't have to be there — with a lockbox or a code lock and a list of what goes, the job can run while you're at work, and you get photos when it's done.

What affects the quote

Volume and weight first, then how far it all has to travel to the truck. A curbside pile is a different job than a full basement with a turn in the stairs.

A few specifics worth knowing up front. Each mattress carries a $28 fee. Refrigerant appliances — fridges, freezers, AC units, dehumidifiers — carry an added fee that shows on the quote, because they can't go in a regular load. TVs and electronics are no extra charge. Concrete, brick, dirt and roofing shingles carry a higher tipping charge built into the quote, since the landfill charges by weight on those.

Quotes are free, depend on the size of the job, and usually come back the same day. They're good for 30 days. There's a $100 minimum on any job. Payment by cash, check, card or any payment app, when the work is done. The what we take page covers the rest of the list.

How long it takes

Most single-family move-outs in Middletown are a half day to a full day. A house with a packed garage, a full basement and an attic runs into a second day, usually because the debris needs more than one trip rather than because the carrying takes that long.

If you're working back from a settlement or a lease end, tell us the date when you ask for the quote. Weekend work is available, and phones are answered Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.
