Light Demolition in Walkersville, MD

Walkersville and the rest of the Glade Valley have a lot of houses that are now old enough for their first big teardown. The deck that went on the back in the late nineties has soft boards and a rail that moves. The resin shed in the corner of the yard has a split roof and holds a mower and twelve years of paint cans. The downstairs bathroom still has the original vanity and floor tile.

None of that is structural work. It's one thing that has to come apart and then has to go away, and the going away is the part that catches people out.

The part people underestimate

A deck takes a day to take apart. Getting several truckloads of treated lumber, joist hangers and footers off the property is the bigger half of the job, and in Walkersville the usual routes are closed to it.

  • Weekly trash is collected Wednesdays by J&J Trash Service, and items are capped at 45 pounds and 3½ feet. A deck board is neither.
  • Town bulk trash days in 2026 are June 6 and November 7, set out after the Wednesday pickup — and bulk day does not accept construction or demolition debris. A torn-out bathroom doesn't qualify no matter how neatly it's stacked.
  • The county's site at 9031 Reichs Ford Road is open to residents Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 4:30 PM, about 10 miles south of Walkersville, roughly 20 minutes each way. That's the honest alternative: your own truck, several trips, and the fee on the loads that carry one.

Information checked October 2026 — town schedules change, and the Walkersville page keeps the current dates.

We tear it out and haul it on the same job, so there's nothing left in the yard waiting on a date.

What light demolition covers

Decks, deck stairs and the footers under them. Sheds, wood and resin both. Fences and gates. Playsets and swing sets. Hot tub surrounds and their pads. Interior tear-outs — a bathroom back to studs, a kitchen's cabinets and counters, basement paneling, carpet and padding, built-in shelving, a run of closets. Small concrete walks and slabs come out too, though concrete and brick carry a higher tipping charge built into the quote, because the landfill charges by weight on that material.

If there's something in the pile you want to keep — lumber, a door, the storm windows — say so before we start and it gets set aside instead of loaded.

What we don't take on

This is light demolition, not structural demolition. No whole-house or load-bearing work, no roof replacement, no HVAC, nothing at the electrical panel, and no tree removal — though we'll haul brush once it's down. If a tear-out turns up something that needs its own trade, you'll hear that instead of us taking a swing at it.

On permits: the property owner pulls any that are needed, and most small yard teardowns don't need one. There's more on where that line falls in shed demolition permits in Frederick County.

What affects the quote

Size and weight first. A 10x12 deck off the back of a townhouse is not the same job as a wrap-around with two sets of stairs and a built-in bench.

For sheds, what's inside matters more than the shed. One we have to empty before we can touch it is really two jobs. For interior tear-outs it's how much comes out and how far it's carried — a basement bathroom means every bucket goes up the stairs by hand.

Then access. A fence line we can back a truck up to prices differently than a deck behind a locked gate on a tight lot, and the Glade Valley has plenty of both.

Quotes are free, depend on the size of the job, and usually come back the same day. They're good for 30 days. There's a $100 minimum on any job. Payment by cash, check, card or any payment app.

How long it takes

Most single-item teardowns — one deck, one shed, one fence run — are a day, two if the debris needs more than one trip. Interior tear-outs depend on how much is coming out and whether you need the space clear for whoever is coming in behind us. If a contractor is following you, we'd rather set the date around them than leave you with an empty hole in the yard for three weeks.

Walkersville is about 10 miles from 5738 Jefferson Pike, roughly 20 minutes around the east side of Frederick, so coming back to finish doesn't cost a day. Weekend work is available, and phones are answered Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. You don't need to be home if there's a lockbox or a code lock and a clear list of what's coming out.
